Stop The Presses: Is Anyone Reading? - A Conversation with Alan Horton '65 and Paul Atkinson (Princeton '74)

Print journalism in the U.S has experienced a precipitous decline, and has been replaced by a chaotic new world of digital content.

The implications of that shift for our politics, our economy and our culture are enormous.

On what sources today can Americans rely for news and commentary they can trust?

And how can traditional journalism compete for an audience without compromising its own standards?

On April 5, two veteran ink stained wretches will try to cast some light on these subjects, and generate some group discussion.

Whether you are a digital only reader, or a fan of old fashioned print, this lunch discussion should prove to be fun and informative.

Join us for this exciting luncheon!

Yale alum Alan Horton ’65 retired as head of the Newspaper Division of the E.W. Scripps Company. Alan was a prize-winning investigative reporter, Washington correspondent, newspaper editor and publisher. As Naples Daily News  editor from 1987 through 1991, the paper was named one of the top ten small newspapers in the country. Alan has been a civic leader across a wide range of organizations in Collier county.

Princeton’s Paul Atkinson (Princeton ‘74) worked for 25 years on the advertising and circulation side of The Wall Street Journal, and later in his career for the Newspaper Association of America. He was assigned to Hong Kong  for The Journal in Asia and served in Brussels as Publisher of the European edition. In retirement Paul contributes op-ed columns to The New York Sun and The Hill.
