Yale's Peabody Museum: Past, Present, Future
Join your fellow Yalies for our annual Yale Club Lecture Series at Northern Trust. This year we are honored to have David Skelly, Director of the Peabody Museum and Frank R. Oastler Professor of Ecology at the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies at Yale. Skelly has been awarded the Forestry School's annual prize for teaching excellence on four occasions. He received his B.A. from Middlebury College and Ph.D. in biology from the University of Michigan.
In this talk Professor Skelly will describe the museum's coming transformation and, as a member of President Salovey's University Science Strategy Committee, will offer his perspective on the exciting future of the sciences at Yale.
The Peabody Museum of Natural History was founded more than 150 years ago as a way of injecting science into Yale College. Now, as the university re-imagines the role of the sciences, the Peabody is poised for a complete renewal.
Peabody director Skelly said recently, "We are renewing the Peabody as a gateway for the sciences - one that is equipped physically and programmatically to operate at the very cutting edge of scientific research, teaching, and public education."
During the reception from 5:30pm to 6:00pm, Northern Trust serves wine, soft drinks and delicious hors d'oeuvres. Remember, every penny of profit from the lectures goes to the Club's endowment for scholarships and aid to Southwest Florida students who attend Yale. Your admittance fee of $30 is fully tax deductible. We also suggest that you consider adding $50 or $100 to your payment as an additional contribution to our endowment.
